EPL Week 34: Blackburn - Manchester United

Santa Cruz 1-0

Tevez 1-1

Manchester plesed with a point

Carlos Tevez rescued a point at the death for a distinctly underwhelming Manchester United at Ewood Park this evening to keep his side just three points above Chelsea in the Premier League title race. Roque Santa Cruz had opened the scoring midway through the first half as United struggled to cope with Blackburn’s high-tempo pressing game early on.

Gradually, however, throughout the second half, United managed to manoeuvre themselves into the ascendancy with countless opportunities before Tevez’s reflex header finally broke Blackburn resistance with tow minutes remaining.

United grew in stature, if not in quality, as the game drew towards its close, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes managing to wrestle the influence of the game way from David Bentley. Wayne Rooney was substituted with a hip injury in a frustrating game for him, as his finishing skills were called into question again.

Brad Freidel was in sublime form for the home side as time and again he had the ability to cope with the scale of United’s chances. He made remarkable stops from Rooney, Ronaldo and John O’Shea before his goal was eventually breached.
